... And The Gift Goes On... Part 2

Finally, the dust has settled and after weeks of meetings, preparations and watsapp exchanges, we have concluded our 2013 Comcare “...and the gift goes...”

Once again, the day started early for wifey and myself as we reached Toa Payoh central at 930am. We were also there on Friday evening to tie up some loose ends. ( thank God I was on leave so am not so tired)

Waited for Abel to arrive before we proceed to block 58 pavilion.

Once there, and a short prayer to start off everything we all got down to work. The guys were mostly doing the shifting of tables and chairs and setting up the multimedia equipment while the gals were working on the deco. The Uband were also having some last minute practice.

Time flies when everyone were engaged and soon it was time to bring Woon Yeet and Angeline over. We had a briefing by Aung Leng and David as the beneficiaries started streaming in at around 1pm. We started off with buffet and then there were a series of song performances and lucky draws. We also conducted a bingo game as one of the programme.

There were some minor hiccups along the way ( such as the bingo set being left in the RC even though the game is about to start ) but overall it was quite a success as the beneficiaries and volunteers are both blessed being the receiver and the giver, respectively.

Some thanksgiving point

1. God bless us with good weather again, although it rained a bit in the midst of the event, it stopped quite fast and did not really interrupt with our programme

2. Financial blessing. Even though Aung Leng has set a faith donation target of $4000 which seemed such a unattainable one at the beginning of the campaign, we managed to reach that amount.

3. Chance to work together with the rest of the subD. Experience some true teamwork as I work together with the committee who cover each other well and everyone contributed with their time, treasure and talent. Rather dynamic committee we have here.

4. Blooming friendship with some of the bro and sis ;o)

5. Wifey and myself grew closer as we serve together

After the project ended, there is a real sense of joy and satisfaction. Most importantly, it once again remind me of this powerful truth

God’s work, done God’s way, will never lack God’s provision....

The Story of the Fire Engine

There was once a fire engine.

He was created to go out and fight fire and rescue people.

Initially the fire engine was very clear about his purpose and mission.

He was not afraid to get himself dirty while out on the field and took delight with every fire that he fought and every person that he rescued.

However over the years, the fire engine began to stay away from the fires.

He was contented to polish himself and keep his body looking shiny and brand new.

He has forgotten why he was created and he has lost the passion to save people...

Have we become like this fire engine in our walk with God?

... And the Gift Goes On... Part 1

..And The Gift Goes On... got off to a great start last Saturday as we embarked on the distribution and invitation session.

Indeed, God blessed us with a nice cooling weather which made our job that much easier. Sure, it drizzled a little before the start but it never really threaten to develop into a shower ;o)

Wifey and myself set off a little earlier and reached the RC at about 11:30am hoping to be able to receive the bread delivery earlier if possible. Thankfully there were no hiccups and everything went on smoothly.

Deliveryman came at about 1145am and I was happy to see the 3 boxes of breads which we can bless 77 households.. Thanks Gardenia for agreeing to let us have it at a low cost of $0.80

After receiving the breads and moving them into the RC, Wifey and myself left to link up with Patrick at Toa Payoh MRT. We had our lunch at Kou-fu together with Liyin and Abel and after that went in search of Coffee Bean or Starbucks for Liyin to get her daily coffee fix. We walked and walked but couldn’t locate any of the coffee joint. (funny how when you are not looking for them they will be everywhere..) Anyway, we finally located one hidden deep inside HDB hub and Liyin got what she wanted. It was also at that time that Faith came over to join us.

We proceeded to the RC and the rest of the team is already there. After a round of introduction , we finally got off to pack the goodie bags and breads. I was not involved in the packing as I was discussing with Aung Leng on the beneficiaries list. Due to the fact that there are no packing of hampers this time around, the packing was completed relatively fast as compared to last year.

Once Packing was done, we had a role play to loosen things up a little. David played the role of a difficult old man while I played the role of volunteer. After that it was Cindy’s turn and she was definitely way better than me in dealing with the “Old Man” ;o)

I brought a team consisting of Wifey, Liyin, Faith , Abel and Patrick and was given block 29 and 31 which has about 23 households.. After going door to door, we managed to give away about 70% of our bread. The units in block 29 is really in very run down conditions and it does bring some realisation to us that there are really very needy families out there and that the loaf of bread and vouchers they will receive next week will really go a long way to bless them...

Anyway, we finished our bread distribution in less than 2 hours and walked back to the RC for a rest and a bit of debriefing... all ready for the actual event on the 15th December 2012....

Let the Gift goes on!

A Bloggy for Wifey

I am happy to unveil a new blog.. * Ta Da*  http://footprintsinthesand2411.wordpress.com/ which i have presented to wifey as a 5th year wedding anniversary surprise.

For friends who are interested to know what is going on in our life can also visit her blog for updates.

Why do i choose to name it as such ? its becuase that's one of wifey's favourite devotional .

It is timeless... really.

especially the answer God gives at the last part...

"My son, my precious child,
I love you and I would never leave you.
During your times of trial and suffering,
when you see only one set of footprints,
it was then that I carried you."

So How Can You Tell Me You're Lonely and Say For You that the Sun Don't Shine

I love this song by Ralph McTell, how it describes London in those early days.. Well, i may not get a chance to visit the place but there is a wee cafe nestled comfortably just across Touch Community at Bukit Merah brilliantly called Streets of London... have always wanted to try this place out and i finally did that with wifey on Tuesday.

God Save the Queen !

Our date

our photo did not do justice to this dessert but its really nice ..

Not quite 7 Wonders but good enough for us

Wifey with her newly cut fringe ;o)

We ordered their Famous IPA Chicken, Aglio Oglio, portobello mushrooms and finished the meal with suasages and a brownie with ice cream. Marvellous ...

Let me take you by the hands and lead you through the Streets of London, I'll show you something to make you change your mind....

Wish Upon A Star(bucks)...

Green , red, and some brown.... yup it’s here, It’s the Starbuck’s Christmas all over again.
This is not an advertisement for them but every time this coffee chain rolls out their Christmas theme
beverages and souvenirs, it never fails to capture my attention.
I love the colours,  those whimsical cartoons and that tinge of magical atmosphere they created.

Not much of a coffee drinker myself but will almost certainly obliged with a toffee nut latte or two with wifey when the mood gets sufficiently stirred... not shaken.

This Song In My Heart

Yesterday morning, during service, we worship with this timeless song . The words are beautiful , and so is the music... I was even singing it on my way to work this morning.

Love of My life

With my eyes I long to see Your smile

With my ears I long to hear Your voice

With all my heart I long to feel You

With all my soul I long to seek You

Please let me find the way to Your dwelling place

I long to hide in the shadows of Your wings

To find my rest as I dwell in Your peace

To live forever in the beauty of Your grace

Draw me close to You

Close by Your side

I want to hold You tight

Close to my mind

Come take me to the place

Where You could be found

I want to praise You Lord all of my life

I want to let You know from the depths of my heart

You’ll be forever Lord, the love of my life
