A Movie, Fathers' Day, Birthday Treat

Last Saturday was supposed to be our 3^rd RC brisk walk, this time to Kent Ridge Park. However, it rained (heavily) at exactly the time we were supposed to move off. In the end, the walk was called off and we went back to our cozy little house to watch some TV, eat the free bun and go back to bed….

Woke up awhile later and prepared brunch. Using whatever is available (thank God our grocery was delivered on Friday evening) I whipped up a decent fare of crabstick with fried eggs on bread and also heat up the pre packed tangy tomato basil soup from The Soup Spoon. Good enough to fill up both our stomachs. I am always happy to come up with something out of nowhere.

We then washed up and went over to fetch dad out to his belated Fathers’ Day Jurassic World movie treat at VivoCity. It will the first time we bring dad for a movie outing since he uses the wheelchair. Thank God we managed to get a cab easily and  the driver was a rather nice guy too. I noticed he stopped the meter earlier while stuck in a small jam to alight us at the Vivo taxi stand. It was a small gesture but things like that, I do appreciate, considering there are some drivers who seems intent on making things more difficult than it already is for the less abled and their family members.

After alighting, I went down to the MRT to try and top up dad’s EZ link card with the SG50 credit but was asked to do it at the Harbourfront bus stop as that is where the old school machine is located, since it was quite a distance away, I decided not to do it and went back up to link up with wifey and dad. We took the lift up to the ticket office and another lift up the 3^rd floor where the cinemas were located and waited there for Cuiqin to arrive.

Meanwhile, I went over to Soup Restaurant to make dinner reservation. I also went to St. Marc to get 2 chocopuffs and a cuppa for wifey, in case she get her hunger pangs. We finished up the food and went into the cinema. Dad was exclaiming that the cinema looked so different now. Smaller. He eyes were looking up to see if there are circus seats upstairs which of course there are none. I told him that cinemas are built smaller now but there are more of it so that they can show different movies at the same time. He seems to like that place.    

Soon Cuiqin arrived and the movie started. Jurassic World is a rather spectacular blockbuster. The storyline was simple but the graphics were awesome. We all enjoyed the movie, which was surprisingly quite short. (less than 2 hours?)

After the movie, we made our way to Soup Restaurant. There was already a long queue formed outside and looking at the time, we were a whopping one hour earlier than our reserved timeslot. We were expecting being asked to wait with growling stomach  BUT thank God again, we were being whisked inside immediately and was given a nice table overlooking Sentosa. (which reminds me so much of Jurassic World). We ordered their signature dishes Samsui Chicken, Soup of the Day(Shark Fin Melon), Fried fish belly and also Potato leaves with salted fish and claypot tofu. It was really a nice dinner with great company. Thank God for Cuiqin who always insist on giving wifey and I a birthday treat to bless us every year, faithfully.

As a bonus, we even get to watch the fireworks show at about 8pm from USS.. haha.



To end off a nice day, wifey got a pretty dress from Factorie while I brought dad for a stroll at the open air promenade and we then took a bus to send dad back. Met another good driver whose attempt to park his bus precisely so that dad’s wheelchair can be pushed down properly brought another heartwarming smile to our spirit. 
 

Standing on a Piece of History

There’s something nostalgic about railway station… especially one that has already ceased operation.

So when it was announced that Tanjong Pagar Railway Station will be opened to visitors on Good Friday public holiday we decided pay a visit.

Took some photos… those colonial style artefacts, peeling brown walls , copper tracks and abandoned stall façade makes for a quaint and really vintage backdrop.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Thank God, weather was quite alright on that day (as compared to the next couple of

days)... headed to Chinatown market to have our Tzi-Char dinner before going home to rest .   

Gone. Not Forgotten.

Personal Tribute

A Line that Says Alot

I love reading blogs (especially Kevin Thompson's) I learnt so much from his articles and how he communicate with his readers.

I noticed that many instances, in the comments section, some readers will ask him about his viewpoints on certain questions or to clarify some parts of his articles.

I love how he will answer them to his best of his ability and then add a sentence at the end "what would you add to the list?" ...  "have I missed out anything?" or "what do you think about this".

By writing this, it communicates 2 powerful truths

1) I do not have ALL the answer.

even though some people are wiser, more knowledgeable, or better at expressing their idea, in the final analysis, no one has it all figured out yet. So by adding this sentence to any form of communication it reflects humility on the part of the writer.

2) Your opinion is valued and I am interested to hear them.

Many times, the one who asked questions are satisfied to just be able to get a reply from the writer but when the writer ask them for their opinions, it makes them think more about the issue and perhaps comes up with valuable insights too which  the writer himself may not even perceive. Its engaging and interesting and communicates that everyone can contribute their viewpoints towards a certain issue or article.

This is something I have learnt. I hope that I can apply it too when I relate to people around me.

Milky Way + Jpot = The Theory of Everything

Last Saturday we went wifey's favourite clay pot frog leg porridge at Chinatown. After that, we walked the streets for awhile before heading home. One of the shop we visited was

Tin Tin was one of my favourite comic during my growing up years (together with Asterix and Journey to the West ) . I always borrowed these books whenever I visit the library and I will spend countless hours devouring them.

Thus, it is nice to see a shop dedicated to this comic character.

In the evening, we tried this Ramen shop that Yilong has recommended.

It is along Bugi Street and the concept is that there are 4 seasons of ramen for the diner to select. Each with a distinct taste in line with that particular season.

Autumn Ramen

Wifey and I chose the Autumn set (mushroom based soup). It was nice to begin with but gets a bit heavy towards the end and wifey couldn't really finish her portion. So as her Hubby knight with a bulging tummy, I went to her rescue and helped her finish off the monstrous Ramen.

we finished the meal with light and refreshing Yuzu sorbet. 

As we had an early dinner, we have some time left for shopping at Bugis Street and wifey got for herself some dresses and a bag ;o)

we then took a stroll to Chimes and saw "Prive". Nice ambience and we have shortlisted that place for either our birthday/wedding anniversary celebration.

On Sunday, we tried Milky Way for the very first time. We had waffles with ice cream

Milky Way is a nice and clean cut café situated at Tanglin Halt. its a good place to just chill and chit chat if its not crowded.

Monday was an off day for us and we took the opportunity to visit Jpot! we have always wanted to try the steamboat here and we finally got the chance when I purchased the Groupon promotion. As it can only be used during the weekdays and to ensure we can eat at a leisurely and non crowded environment, we decided to clear a day of our leave just for this ;o) some pictures below.

We ordered the set lunch for 2 and some additional dishes like beancurd, sliced fish and prawns. It was more than enough for the both of us.

 It was a truly touching and engaging movie.

Project Sparkle 2015

Yesterday, I went for my first volunteering for Project Sparkle. This is an initiative by our church to mobilise members to help clean up the premises of the elderly and needy families around our church community.

Even though this project has been started a few years back, I never got involved before. So yesterday I decided to join Danny and the rest of the people in the sub d at the last minute having not registered myself beforehand.

I reached Textile Centre at about 930am and had my breakfast of nasi lemak. Kok Yong was drinking his coffee there too and we chatted and caught up with each other. Aun Leng and Cindy joined us after awhile. At about 10am, we went up and link up with the rest of the group for a briefing.

After the briefing and collecting our cleaning tools, we walked over to our beneficiary's unit near Jalan Besar. 

The unit where we were assigned to clean was empty so after some rearrangement, we proceed to clean up his neighbour's home ;o)

We completed the cleaning at about lunchtime and brought uncle down for a nice meal

It was a meaningful way to spend the weekend.

Like what Ps. Jeff told us before we set off for our cleaning, many times when we serve, the ultimate beneficiary is always ourselves because when we serve, we see for ourselves how blessed we are to be able to be a channel and vessel of blessings. How true....
